About OneAfrica.Online

OneAfrica.Online is a The Fact Foundry initiative supported by Google, and aims to make a difference in the lives of individuals by providing them with skills to enter the digital world. With high numbers of unemployed youth, The Fact Foundry realised the opportunity for the training to help alleviate this social problem by fostering new entrepreneurs and work opportunities and thereby truly offering economic transformation.

Google announced in June 2017 that they aim to equip 10 million young Africans with skills to help them build an online presence, create content, understand web design, user experience, social media and app development, in the next 5 years. In order to reach this target and create meaningful impact they needed partners across Africa. Google wants to help close the digital gap in Africa, improve employability and encourage entrepreneurship among young people through their Digital Skills for Africa program.

What we do:

Supported by Google, the #DigitalSkills4Africa program delivers and facilitates FREE, 3 – 4 hour, face-to-face digital skills sessions to the youth {18 – 35} of South Africa.

We aim to do the following:

  • create awareness of online opportunities that exist;
  • teach the importance of good web design and how to setup an online marketing strategy;
  • teach effective use of SEO, SEM and Adwords;
  • help the youth understand the power of their mobile devices to reach audiences;
  • teach about job opportunities in the digital space and how to build and online proof of work to showcase abilities, skills and experience to potential employers

How we do it:

To teach digital you must know digital. We started identifying and up-skilling social entrepreneurs within South African communities. Our social entrepreneurs are small businesses, start-up companies, and other entrepreneurial individuals who recognise the value learning has as the single most enduring opportunity to help their communities elevate themselves from poverty, social and environmental challenges.

We have delivered the training from Tzaneen to Kayelitsha and everything in-between.

What we have achieved:
